The themes in the paintings of the artist Florian Thomas are our travels and journeys, movement and stillness along with their iconography in popular myths. He finds these in old postcards or private amateur photography, in which he often moves the marginal to the centre of his figurative paintings. The artist also reflects with this imagery our collective desires for far away and exotic places, as well as the private representation of a shared longing for social prestige. With a figurative realism that is overlayed with abstract, blotted colour elements, he also comments on the two media in which he works: painting and photography.
